Admission of Members into the College
Individual College will set its own requirement for admission as fellows and members. Individual College will set its standards of specialist training, including level, duration, content, and methods of assessment.
In general, to be a qualified member of the College, the candidates have to complete a nurse specialist education from an accredited nursing specialty programme; have at least a degree at postgraduate/master level; and have at least five years of structured specialist training in specialty area. The training area must be accredited by College concerned. The Academy Board will hold certified assessment for their trainees. Passing the final assessment is a prerequisite to Fellowship and members of the Academy.
The programme for preparing advanced practice nurse should contain a core graduate curriculum, an advanced practice nursing core and a specialty curriculum. The content of the graduate curriculum should include research, policy (including healthcare policy, healthcare system organization, and health care financing), ethics, professional role development, theoretical foundations of nursing practice, human diversity and social issues, and health promotion and disease prevention. The advance practice curriculum should include advanced health assessment, advanced physiology, psychology, sociology and pathophysiology, and advanced pharmacology. The content of the specialty curriculum should include the clinical and didactic experience defined by the Academy Board of that particular specialty.
To maintain the name on the specialist registry, members of the College have to fulfill mandatory continuing professional development requirement as stipulated by individual College.
