The Provisional Hong Kong Academy of Nursing has admitted Professor Eng Kiong Yeoh, OBE, G.B.S., JP, as an Honorary Fellow. Professor Yeoh is well known in the public health arena and in the government. He has served with distinction in many public organizations, just to name a few, the first Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority, Hong Kong, first medically qualified Secretary for Health and Welfare, and later first non-civil servant Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Professor Yeoh is currently Professor of Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, Head of Division of Health System, Policy and Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has published many articles in health systems and policy. His rich experiences as a health care executive have added weight to his scholarly work that informs practice. Indeed he was the pioneer in establishing the Hospital Authority which values quality staff, advocates patient-centered care and safeguards quality outcomes. Professor Yeoh has a vision to build a system that provides seamless integrated care for all. He believes this can only be achieved through team work and the strengthening of community care in parallel with hospital care. Nurses being the key partners in health promotion and maintenance support seamless care that interfaces services between the hospital and community. Professor Yeoh’s dedication to improving the public health care services for the community has made him a great supporter for nurses and their contribution to promote people’s health.
